Solar Screens: How Can My Home Benefit From Them?

A lot of people today are concerned about how much energy they are using not only because it costs them more when they are using more energy at home, but also because they are trying to help the environment. Something that can help with energy efficiency in the home is to apply solar screens or shades to windows. There are many people that like to do this because it is simple and doesn't cost a lot, but ends up saving them money in the long run after they have them applied to the outside of their windows.

The way that solar screens work is that they stop heat from transferring through the window itself, whether it is a window in the wall or a window on a door. They still make it easy to see through the window, but they will stop the heat transfer, which in turn is going to help with the energy that your home uses. For instance, most people use less air conditioning when they have these applied to their windows because their homes just don't get as hot due to the heat not being able to get through the windows as easily as it did without the solar screens.

Solar screens come in a variety of sizes, shapes, and shades. For this reason, you have to really measure out and look at the windows that you have on your home to determine which sizes you may need. In some instances, a custom size may be more appropriate for certain windows. The different shades of the solar shades is going to be dependent on personal preference more than anything else, but the darker shades of the screen are going to be able to let less light in overall. You should make sure that you consider what you think is going to look the best overall.

One thing to consider is the fact that windows that face in certain directions will be more adept to utilizing the solar screens than other windows. If you think about how sunlight hits your home or other buildings, not all sides are going to be hit in the same amount of intensity. The windows that will need to be covered the most are the ones that face east, west, and south. North windows tend to not necessarily need solar screens as much because not as much sun is likely to hit them. Here is a video to check on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R38vFgw85nA.
